Chapter II: Salvà¶
Scene: Development — the chapter is in active development with all architectural decisions made and set in stone.
The dawn of telegraphy was the birth of modern telecommunications.
And the dawn of the World Mobile Chain was born in the brain of Micky Watkins, our CEO, while living in Barcelona.
Coincidentally, Barcelona was also the birthplace of Francisco Salvà i Campillo, an inventor and doctor that created the basis of electric telegraphy.
And electric telegraphy was the technological advancement that lit the flame for the world of telecommunications. The Salvà Chapter is the one that lights the flame of World Mobile's sharing economy.
Goals¶
The Salvà Chapter is the last step towards a fully decentralised sharing economy.
EarthNodes currently run on a federated network. However, towards the end of this chapter, decentralisation will begin as EarthNode operators gradually start to process transactions.
In the Salvà chapter, AirNode registrations will be open to the public. Existing AirNodes from the previous chapter — at schools, community centres, government buildings and private locations — will be transitioned into the sharing economy.
Subscriber Services¶
Native Apps¶
World Mobile native applications will introduce several features, including privately encrypted Push-to-Talk (PTT) and Peer-to-Peer messaging.
These features will be the first clients of the future dApp software development kit (SDK). As we grow, World Mobile will offer external developers access to the SDK to develop future applications on top of our base native apps.
Significant Architectural evolutions¶
AirNodes¶
Custom OpenWrt packages are in development so that off-the-shelf network devices can be used as AirNodes. This will allow operators to reuse and repurpose hardware they may already own to join the World Mobile Chain and extend the network’s overall coverage.
Quality of Service (QoS) measurements will be settled on-chain, kicking off the reward scheme for AirNode operators.
Furthermore, we are developing a system for interference prevention that incentivises geographical distribution of AirNodes and ensures fair competition between operators.
EarthNodes¶
We are creating a federated network of EarthNodes, privately operated by World Mobile, to test and optimise all the configuration parameters of the World Mobile Chain.
During Salvà, we will be testing the consensus mechanism and finality settlement from the World Mobile Chain onto the 1st layer settlement chain. This will allow us to bring on external operators as we transition from Salvà into the next chapter.
Types of EarthNodes and specs¶
These are the types of EarthNodes that are currently being tested and the initial recommended specifications. (For external operators, more accurate specs will be provided.)
Note: EarthNodes are limited to a combined total of one thousand Chain and full EarthNodes.
Chain EarthNode¶
Chain EarthNodes are the minimum version of the EarthNodes. They’ve been designed for operators that only want to perform the blockchain services but don't want to be constrained by the hardware requirements or skills required to run a full EarthNode and the Communication-as-a-Service (CaaS) modules.
Chain EarthNodes will contain a fully functional blockchain node.
Current minimum spec for running a Chain EarthNode:
Intel or AMD x86 processor 4 cores and 3.3GHz
16 GB of RAM
256 GB SSD
30 Mbps Bandwith
Running Linux 5.15
Full EarthNode¶
Fully operational EarthNodes will enable Communication-as-a-Service (CaaS) modules that provide extra services and earn extra rewards from the World Mobile Chain.
Current minimum spec for running a full EarthNode:
Intel or AMD x86 processor 16 cores 1.9GHZ
64 GB of RAM
2 TB SSD
100 Mbps Bandwidth
Running Linux 5.15
Current modules under test on the EarthNode are:
- Storage-as-a-Service
- Corporate encrypted Chat-as-a-Service
- Encrypted recorded Calls-as-a-Service
